Almost 5 million schoolchildren took part in the All-Russian Online Olympiad «Safe Roads»
From September 19 to October 22, with the support of the national project "Safe High-quality Roads", the All-Russian Online Olympiad "Safe Roads" was held on the educational platform <url>. Knowledge about the rules of behavior on the roads was tested by almost 5 million schoolchildren in grades 1-9.
"Reducing accidents on the roads is a task that is embedded in the national goal "A comfortable and safe environment for life." And child safety is a special priority. That is why the Safe Roads Olympiad, which aims to increase the knowledge of schoolchildren about safe behavior on the roads, has received a great response among children and parents. More than 4 million 975 thousand students of grades 1-9 across the country took part in the online Olympiad this year," said Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin.
The tasks of the Olympiad affected the rules of the road for both pedestrians and drivers of vehicles. Almost 300 thousand children who took part in the Olympiad are members of the detachments of "Young Traffic Inspectors".
"The formation of the skills of safe behavior on the roads in the younger generation should be a continuous process that begins in early childhood and continues throughout the period of adulthood. In my opinion, it is especially valuable that the tasks of the Olympiad cover different age categories of schoolchildren — from first-graders who take only the first independent steps as pedestrians, studying a safe route from home to school, to 9th grade students who very soon, perhaps, will go to study at driving schools, get behind the wheel of a car and they will become full—fledged road users, and they should be as ready as possible for this," said Police Lieutenant General Mikhail Chernikov, head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Improving road safety is one of the most important tasks of the national project "Safe high—quality roads". As a rule, work on the facilities is carried out in a comprehensive manner: contractors not only update the pavement, but also equip elements of the road infrastructure.
"A modern road should be as safe as possible for all road users, especially for children. In 2023, according to the national project, we plan to bring more than 21 thousand km of regional highways and sections of the road network in large and small settlements to the standards. Of this number, 2.5 thousand km are school routes, i.e. streets where children go to kindergarten or study every day, as well as roads where school buses run. In addition to road works directly, about 2.4 thousand traffic lights will be installed in the participating regions of the national project, about 1.6 million units. m of barrier and 223 thousand square meters of pedestrian fencing, more than 1 million square meters of sidewalks and over 800 thousand square meters will be equipped. m lighting," said Roman Novikov, head of the Federal Highway Agency.
If you know and follow the rules of the road, the risk of getting into an unpleasant situation is minimized. And the Safe Roads online Olympiad is a great opportunity to repeat these rules, and for someone to learn something new, something that will definitely be useful in the future.
146 thousand schoolchildren took part in the online competition in the Samara region. It is worth noting that the Olympiad is gaining popularity in the region: 123 thousand people took part in it in 2022.
"The Olympiad is part of the programs of educational organizations for the prevention of child traffic injuries. It helps to check the knowledge of children, to learn the basic rules. Testing takes place in a playful way in an interactive format. For example, students can choose characters and complete a mini-quest. It is very interesting for children from 1st to 9th grade to take it. The most important thing is that it identifies gaps in children's knowledge, and teachers have the opportunity to return to a difficult topic, once again consolidate it," says Anastasia Baskakova, head of the Samara Regional Center for the Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries.
Many students have been participating in the online Olympiad for several years, while interest in it has not waned.
"My son has been going through the Olympics for several years now. He likes to answer questions because the tasks are very interesting, and such situations occur in real life. In addition, the design of the Olympiad is colorful, there is an interactive one. Usually, before answering a question, my son and I discuss the task, think about how to do the right thing, thanks to this, the rules are easy and long to remember. If the son's results were not very good in the first year, then the next year he scored the maximum number of points," says Olga Yashina, the mother of a 7th grade student.
In the Republic of Dagestan, almost 116 thousand schoolchildren took part in the Olympiad. Elementary school students completed tasks with their parents.
"Like last year, I took part in the Olympics with my mother — where I doubted the answer, my mother suggested, but I coped with many tasks myself. Now I know exactly how to behave when riding a bike, where it is safer to play in the yard or where to glue reflective elements on clothes," Murad Hasanbekov, a 2nd grade student of the Caspian Secondary School No. 6, shared his impressions.
In the Udmurt Republic, over 74 thousand schoolchildren participated in the online competition.
Alexander Novikov, a 5th grade student at school No. 90 in Izhevsk, completed the tasks of the online Olympiad at home. He says he spent less than an hour answering. "All the tasks are interesting and understandable. Knowing the traffic rules, it is not difficult to answer. I know the rules pretty well: they often talked about it at school, and mom and dad always remind me of it, too, because I have to walk across the high road and tram tracks from home to school. Therefore, I easily answered the questions of how to walk, how to cross the road. The only thing that was more difficult was answering questions about cycling and riding a scooter. But I managed to find the right answers, so I coped with the Olympics. In general, interesting tasks, I liked it. I scored 66 out of 70 points," Sasha shared his impressions.
Sasha's mother, Ksenia Vladimirovna, watched with interest how her son coped with the tasks. "I think that the Olympiad is very necessary for modern children, because now it is quite dangerous to be on the roads of the city without appropriate knowledge. A lot of cars, very powerful traffic, as well as new hobbies of young people with scooters — this is a big burden on all participants of the movement. Therefore, I am only "in favor" of such work and we were happy to take part in the Olympiad. The tasks are interesting and informative, giving the opportunity to repeat the travel certificate, and if the son has any omissions in this knowledge, there is an incentive to make up for them immediately. The Olympiad is very necessary for schoolchildren!" — Ksenia Novikova is sure.
This year, more than 33 thousand schoolchildren took part in the Olympiad in the Kurgan region. "The guys note that every year they learn something new, consolidate the knowledge of previous Olympiads. Since tasks are solved online at home, parents can also take part with their children, understand what a road trap is, why it is necessary to have reflective elements on clothes. Of course, theoretical knowledge cannot completely protect schoolchildren from mistakes on the road, but the number of offenses and accidents is minimized," said Tatyana Melnikova, public inspector for BDD, adviser to the director of education and interaction with public associations of Gymnasium No. 31 in Kurgan.
Recall that the organizers of the All-Russian Online Olympiad are the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, together with the ANO "National Priorities" and " <url>" with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.
The event was held for the fourth year in a row, during which time, thanks to the online competition, 15.3 million Russian schoolchildren improved their road literacy.
